    Exhaust pipe expansion

    63 convertible_
I bought new secondary pipes (2.5 in) which require that the forward ends be expanded to accept the front pipe that attaches to the manifold. I am using an expander driven by a neumatic wrench. I can only get about 100 psi out of my compressor, and have reached a point where the pipe will not expand any further. It's close, but needs a bit more expanding. Do I need more air pressure to the wrench or perhaps add some heat"? Any tips appreciated.

Take the pipes to a muffler shop, for a few bucks they can make them the correct size.

That's a reasonable assumption, but it didn't work for me

Long box end wrenches or breaker bars will give you more torque than a 100psi impact gun.

I started with a breaker bar, but don't have a jig to hold the pipe in place; just a vice. The 100 PSI limit can be remedied by fixing the leak in my compressor regulator. Since I had not doe this before, I am a bit timid; concerned about spliting the pipe. But since the shop got the previous pipe sloppy big, I guess I shouldn't be worring about that.

I would not operate the impact tool at any higher pressure than the instructions for that particular tool state. Often times, this pressure will be found on a label or embossment on the tool.
