BTW: If you have C-60 (air conditioning) you do not need this. AC equipped Corvettes of this era used only the metal clip on the radiator -- as previously described and pictured by others. There is no room for this retained witht he C-60 hoses on the inner fender well.

Now I am more confused than ever. 2 kinds of clamps. The guide says a clip. But there is no kind of clip or clamp in the AIM.

You're assuming that the AIM is the "bible."
It's not - it is a guide. Use known original cars as your "bible" with the AIM as a guide.

The AIM doesn't cover every circumstance, and neither does the TIM&JG. In your other thread someone posted a picture of the tag for the broadcast code and the clip for the overflow hose, both of which go on the lip of the end tank.

There should be an image on Patrick's site of the overflow hose. I am pretty sure his 1972 has C60.

I looked at Guy Larsen's Base/C60 1972 on Saturday, but didn't take a picture because I didn't know we were dealing with a C60 question until I went to post the pictures I took of my car.

I guess Steve will have to rely on the pictures posted in the other threads about this. There are a lot of the threads on this subject. Here are a few pertenant ones. A search (I used "radiator" & "overflow hose") using various key words may yield more results:

I think I have seen it, or at least something very similar on other Chevrolet models -- but I can not remember what. Sounds like we need the part number genius to work on it.
