    wiper blade refills

    Hello.
does anyone have any insight as to where I may find replacement rubber refills for my O E windshield wipers? I have an 88 with 20" wipers. I do not want to bite the bullet just yet and get GM O E M ...was hoping someone had 2 20" refills laying around or maybe a Trico retiree "liberated" some before retiring or the plant closing..LOL

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Jeff

    Re: wiper blade refills

    Jeff,

I don't know that much about "modern" Corvettes but my 1992 Corvette Parts Catalog (Oct. 1991) lists GM # 14069842 as the insert (20" Trico) for 84-87 Corvettes and 88-92 Corvettes (exc. C18). This part number has been discontinued.
The wiper blade part # is listed as 10135947 (20" Trico) for 84-87 Corvettes and 88-92 Corvettes (exc. C18) and has been discontinued.

These part numbers are what was available in Oct. 1991 and may not be the same as in 1988.

My 1984 Corvette Parts Catalog (June 1984) lists GM # 14046674 for the wiper blade and 14069842 for the insert.

The 14046674 blade was replaced with the 10135947 blade sometime between June 1984 and Jan. 1990 as per GM Parts History.

The 14069842 insert sold for $6.40 in March 1991 and apparently was only used on 84-92 Corvettes w/20" Trico blades and no other GM models (only the number "5" listed in GM Price Schedule).

Corvette Central sells their part # 654276 for $13.95 as a reproduction of the 10135947 blade. I have no idea how accurate their reproduction blade is but I'm sure they would work until you found a pair NOS blades or refills but this could take years. Good luck in your search.

    Dave

      Re: wiper blade refills

I have replacement blades on the car now that work fine...I just happened across a pair of ORIGINAL blades wit hthe correct "arrow" tips, I wanted to get the refill rubber blades so I could put them on my car...all I need is the rubber that slides into the metal blade.

Jeff: You might try either one of these C4 part sources. Vette Pros, 8814 N. Lakebrook Rd., Charolette, NC 28214 or Just Vettes, 3500 Little Hills Expressway, St. Charles, MO 63302, 800-806-8388. I am attaching a couple of thumbnail photos of my factory original 92 Corvette wiper blade inserts. My '92 is a July build date. It might be hard to see the detail but here is a basic description. The blade is pretty much all rubber with a black frame that holds the rubber and at the back of each blade the metal frame is notched out to hold it into the arrow head shaped holders. There are no metal loops holding the rubber to the frame, just the black cut-out metal frame. These blades have only been on my car recently at the National Conventions in St. Charles, San Jose, and last month in Novi. I am the original owner so I know these are the real deal. I hope the photos help you in your search. John Marsico

Trico still makes wiper blade refills for your 88 Vette. These Trico refills are generally available at most national auto parts stores.

Peter I do not want the new plastic "bows" that come with the rubber...I only want the rubber piece that slides into the O E arrow tip bow that came on the car from the factory...I need just the rubber nothing else.

                Jeff:

Check with Larry Richter, NCRS Master Judge. Larry rebuilt my OEM wipers a year or two back and did a great job. In the restoration process he came up with the proper inserts for my original Trico wipers. Drop Larry a note, I am sure he can point you in the right direction. richter@cni.net
