    Re: C3-rim question

    Dale,

I went to a Firestone Firehawk 225 70R15. There were 2 options. One with original tread and compound and one with a more modern tread and compound. Very impressive braking now with the improved compound.

Years ago I went from bias ply on a 64 Cadillac coupe deville to Michelin radials. Night and day handling differences and improvement to ride (but this is going back to mid 70's).

Ditch the bias ply and stay on the stock rims.

    Cheers,

    Michael B.

The Goodrich Comp T/A is no longer manufactured (hope you don't ruin a tire and need a single replacement). However, I believe in the 215-70-15 size they were "S" speed rated.

The Goodrich Radial T/A remains available and is available in the 215-70-15 size. However, it is also an "S" rated tire.[/quote]

Ouch, did not realize that! Figures though, decent tire at a decent price!S rating OK for my use, I generally try to keep it under 100 m.p.h.! Now a new Z-06 would be another matter!

This often occurs with tires these days. With the absolute plethora of sizes and with auto manufacturers changing the sizes of wheels and tires used on new cars all the time, tire models and sizes are discontinued all the time. So, if you buy a new set of tires, don't count on a replacement being available if required even just a few years later. With tires on cars that are little driven the situation is even worse and you better have a spare or two "waiting in the wings" in case a tire is ruined. Otherwise, you need to buy a complete new SET if even just one gets ruined. With radials, all it takes to ruin one is a nail in the "no repair" area of the tire tread shoulders and sidewall.
