replacing water pump on a 57

I have checked various shop manuels for the r and r procedure for removing a water pump. Will it be necessary to support the engine when removing the pump? I thought the engine brace would handle the weight. Should I support engine by the pan rails? Thanks for any advise.

Jerry, It has been a long time since I did it but don't think it is too hard. I think I supported the pan with wood over a jack which allows up & down adjusting. Good luck, Don H.

Yes, on both sides of pan rails(make a U out of 2x6 or 8's was on this board a few months back), unless you can chain a hoist onto top of motor for support with cherrie picker or like over head chainfall.
