Using 58 under fender support on 60 - Judging hit?

I just ordered the support brackets that were used on 58s on the underside of the fender (under the fender top spear molding) to help prevent sagging. I am going to install on my 1960. We bought a new front clip from Sermersheim, already assembled, and there is enough sag in the fenders that it is noticable and the top fender molding doesn't fit right due to the sag.

Can anyone address the judging implications of using this "foreign" part?

The Judging Sheet has 60 originality points for "Condition of Fiberglass & Components". I assume I would not loose all of this. I've looked in the Corvette Judging Reference Manual and having no experience with the judging event, I can't really tell was the deduct would be.

    Thanks,

    Don

I received a 4 point deduction at a regional meet for this mortification on my 61. At a chapter meet I got a 30 point deduction because the judge considered it a body mortification. I felt this was unfair since the reinforcement wasn't part of the body.

Thanks, this is what're I needed to know. The 30 points seems very high. If I understand the score sheets, that was a 50% deduct for the whole body value.

I am unfamilier with this part. Can you give me a CC part number? Will this help a fender that already has sag?

Is there an alterternative way to fix the problem short of replacing the front clip?

The CC part number is 331214. Picture from CC online catalog below. These came on 58s. They are riveted to the underside of the fender under the top fender molding. The molding studs actually go through these supports and bolt from underneath them. If you have sag along the top centerline of your fenders I would think these would help. That's what is going on with the front clip I got. Buying a new front clip may or may not solve the problem. Mine is brand new, assembled by Sermersheim and still has sag.

Also, if you do decide to buy a new front clip, find someone to glue it together. I bought mine assembled from Sermersheim and my body/paint guy is having to take 80% of it back apart and reglue. The Sermersheim parts look good, and they are refunding the assembly charge and providing some new parts. But the assembly job was very careless in a number of places so I would recommend against buying it pre-assembled.

Thanks for the reply Donald. BTW who is Sermersheim?
