I am in need of a 942 block and see one on ebay, item #230660820298. There are pictures of displaying the casting number and date. Would anyone have a comment on the authenticity of the numbers. The numbers look a little questionable.

Re: 942 Block
Everyone has to start somewhere but you should be very careful with zero (0) ratings and the guy starting out selling a high end block.
You need to get in writing that has some significant backing that the block is guaranteed buildable or you just wasted 4000$.- Top

Re: 942 Block
I bought one for my '65 a couple of years back. In addition to assurances that the block can be built out, by YOUR machine shop else you get your money back.. I would make sure that it has not been sleeved (cannot see in the photos) and that the starter mount has not been repaired. Evidently that was a problem area and a number of them have repaired starter mounts. Naturally find out about heli-coils etc.. Get some pictures from all angles.. check where the water jackets in the head mate with the block for excess pitting...
It is always better to buy from another NCRS member if you can.. I suspect there may be one out in Driveline (where I found mine). You can also check with the two guys in Wisconsin who deal in this stuff. There was also a guy on the internet; Big Block Bruce... who had a stash of BBs. I could never get him to respond to my questions however.
Good luck!

Re: 942 Block
Walter------
I'd be VERY skeptical of purchasing a block for this kind of money unless I knew it was rebuildable. I'd want an ironclad guarantee of rebuildability and I don't see any way of enforcing such a guarantee. Plus, the seller wants payment via money order or cashier's check. So, that means that once you send it off, you are completely at his mercy regarding EVERYTHING. Plus, as has been pointed out, this seller has a ZERO track record.
Would I get involved myself in a purchase like this? Absolutely, positively NOT. Period. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Years ago, when I first started trading on eflea I bid off a rather expensive item. Not knowing any better, I sent a money order. As they say, "a fool and his money are soon parted". Needless to say, I never saw my merchandise. Eflea tells you not to send money orders.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: 942 Block
I buy Corvette odds and ends on Ebay all the time but this engine has MANY red flags.
Try posting a thread on this TDB asking if someone has the block for sale that you are looking for. Also there are other sources such as engineslimited.com. They may be willing to give you a guarantees about re-buildability.- Top

Re: 942 Block
Don,
I sent you a PM with a couple guys that do guarantee their blocks. If you're the one bid below the reserve, you are pretty safe no one else is going to jump on this. It is odd that the oil canister area is bright red rusty but the other areas no as if it has been machined. Let someone else be the sucker as if you send the MO as the others have said, you won't be protected by the fleebay protection, if that is worth anything remains to be seen. You should have at least seen the VIN pad too. There is one there forsale that has a good original VIN pad but it won't match yours.- Top

Re: 942 Block
I would recommend calling Randy at Engines Limited. The number is:
(920) 685-0288
I got a pair of 858 heads from him, no problems whatsoever.

Re: 942 Block
One more thing I forgot to mention: the seller says that he ships within 20 days after "cleared payment". Presumably, that means after he confirms that the money order or cashier's check he demands is confirmed to him as "money in his bank account without holds". That could require at least another week to 10 days after he receives payment. So, it could be a month before he even ships the block. LOTS of things can happen in a month that could "interfere" with his ability to ship the block---things like he blows the money and then has "second thoughts" about "giving up" his block when he no longer has the money. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
