    Another Stamp Pad Question

I rebuilt my 390 and told the machine shop to stay clear of stamping. Guess what -- they decked too much off. Can you tell from pictures if it's O.K. as far as verification? I am going to Carlisle and try and pick up one of those broach busters. Can they see or pick up reminants of the old markings? I know that they were there and would like to be able to see them again. If the light is just right you can just make them out faintly.
    Thanks
    Dale

Hard to tell from the photos, but if the judges "buy"characters", it probably will warrant a deduction for the deck surface. Thirty eight points, I believe.

Thanks for the info. I am more concerned about origionality and keeping it that way than the judging points. Although it would be nice to know how it would judge. I have put a bunch into the car (way too much) to get it as correct as possible and have been worried less about the pristine condition of the parts. By the way that sounds like a lot of points out of the 350 for the engine, but I guess it (surface / broach marks) is an important area over all.

        Re: Another Stamp Pad Question

I don't see any broach marks in the second photo, but I can not see all the pad. The first photo is useless. Why not take the pictures before the engine was assembled -- or at least without the fuel filter and air conditioner bracket in the way?

BTW: Nice finish on the compressor bracket. There was another thread on here about that subject, and the original poster should look at your first image for his answer.

Let's see 38 points is just slightly more than 10% of the total 350 for the engine and you think it is too much. Some folks judge the whole pad by the broach marks and you will lose another 50 for the numbers with those people. They operate on the principle that if the background is not TFP then what is stamped on it also has to Be non-TFP.

The broach buster will not show you what is not there, but then you might see some of the original finish -- if there is any.
