I have the original RH rear storage compartment liner for the '71. It is a bit tattered and tired cosmetically. I ordered the service part, and it is shallower as the judging manual warns. Can anyone point me to someone who can restore my original or provide some direction on how to restore it properly myself? One thread in the archives suggests there was a member who was restoring these in 2006. Thanks!

Hi Jerod,
Not to take work from John, but you did mention trying to restore the tray yourself.
Member Don Lowe wrote an article for the RESTORER in 2009 about tray restoration. It certainly seems like something you could try if you wanted to.
The issue is Volume 36, Number 1, Summer 2009. If you don't have access to that issue I'd be happy to scan and send it to you.
Good Luck!

Re: Restoration of 1971 RH Rear Storage Compartment Liner
The use of white Elmer's type glue to repair and restore the cardboard frayed and worn edges works wonders. Then a re-flocking kit makes it looks like new!
I did my original that way and receive compliments on it.- Top

One of the bottom with the original date stamp.
One thing that might or might not be okay...a lot of stray paint on the bottom and sides. Maybe I can work to remove it. Will it be a judging issue?Attached Files- Top

Re: Restoration of 1971 RH Rear Storage Compartment Liner
Here are my "before" pictures, and from these you can see a bit of paint here and there. I'm reasonably sure this is the correct, original part. It's made of that papery-type of material, but has no date code on the bottom that would nail it. It's a deep well, not like the reproduction units.
My best guess is yours would do well in judging. Clearly they weren't too careful with the paintbrush on the underside.Mine has a big ol' brush mark.

Your new photos look graeat - thanks for the update.
I'm confused though.... In an earlier post you mention the "stray" paint on the bottom and sides of your tray.... was that on your tray originally, or is that how you got it back from John?- Top
