    C1 generator paint color

Has anyone discovered a good "semi-flat" black paint in a rattle can for a C1 (specifically a '57...) generator......? The one's I've found are either too flat or too glossy....

    Thanks...

Gary, I used Paragons simi black (CC engine parts & frame paint looked just as good too) , looks great. Also rustolem satin or simi black looked ok but took a long time to dry. GM resto looks ok , but not the best.

I have to agree with this one. Although, I don't use the Rustoleum brand. The ACE Hardware stores sell their own brand which is RUST STOP. I have found it to be about $1./less and it seems to be equal in quality to the Rustoleum brand (ya, I'm cheap). Also, it does take a while (2-3 days, depending on temp and humidity) for it to dry. But once cured, it is VERY durable and leave a nice finish. The Satin finish seems to be just right.
When I rebuild a starter, generator, dist, etc, I paint the individual pieces while it is disassembled. If a generator has its original tag riveted on, I place a piece of masking tape over the tag, make sure the tape is thouroughly pressed down around the tag, then use a razor blade, Exacto blade, whatever, and VERY CAREFULLY trim off the excess tape around the perimeter of the tag.

Paint drying time is no problem in North Texas right now. The problem is waiting for the lowest temperature to spray paint. If I waited until the recommended temp, 75 degrees, I could not have sprayed any paint for the past two months and have another 3 weeks remaining. In the Dallas area, we have not been below 82 degrees in the morning for over 2 months. Despite the temp being in the 80s, I paint early in the morning and the paint is dry in a few minutes. Time to build an air conditioned paint booth!
