    67 Power Steering Cylinder finish

Nothing in the Judging Guide on this. Was the power steering cylinder semi-gloss black, like the pump.

It sure looks gray in the 67 service manual, but they didn't have color in the service manuals back then.

Semi-gloss black. I've never seen one that was otherwise.

By the way, I don't think they have color pictures in the service manuals to this day.

      Thanks Joe,

      Semi-gloss black it is.

Just refurbing the non-original I took off my 67 a few years ago when I had some leaks.

I put on a imported one then. Guess what, the imported one has metric thread on the shaft, M10 x 1 thread. Can't find a castle nut to fit the thread.

Jerry, If the rod is not grooved in the center position the seal kit will work good. If there is a groove in the rod the leak will still be there and it's better to find a rebuilt cylinder.

The only bad thing I see with the rebuild unit is the weld joint when assembling after they replace with the new rod.

Are you sure the thread size is M10 X 1.0? I know of no such thread size. The only 10 mm thread size I know of is M10 X 1.5.

            Joe

I'm sure there is an M10X1.0 thread pitch, extra fine. After trying the 3/8 x 16 castle nut on the shaft to no avail, I've been in all the hardware bins around town. There is a 1.25 and a 1.5, and also a 1.0.

Finally found a M10X1.0 hex nut in the bubble packed stuff at Orchard's Supply, that fits the shaft perfectly. But castle nuts in that size, nada.

Yup, you're right. A M10 X 1.0 thread size does exist. It's very uncommon. I might be able to find you such a slotted nut. I'll let you know.

I found some castle nuts of M10 X 1.0 thread size and they're on their way to me. Genuine GM, too. When I get them, I'll send you one.
