    Ron -

There's nothing unique about the front pipes - they're the same parts used on all 2-1/2" exhaust systems.

If you go to the Doc Rebuild site, he has excellent photos of the details on a set of Service N-11 pipe/muffler assemblies he has for sale.

Part numbers are on tape wraps on the pipes, and there are no part numbers stamped or embossed anywhere - just the Arvin plant/date code.

      Ron,

On original mufflers and pipes there are actually no part numbers. All that was present was a debossed (pushed outward) "A" for the company. These are really rare to find but there was a recent picture on the board last week from a thread about blackout. All other mufflers should be judged as service replacements. There are four versions of GM service replacements that I have observed. The first design had a date code like 11 345 1, and "A" debossed on one side. The second design had the date code , the A and the GM logo (both sides). The third design had the A at the end of the date code (moved down from above the date code) and included the part number 3845735 and 3845736 and GM. The fourth version actually changed the 3845736 to 3845737. The off road yellow stamp would be on the muffler in random positions. The four service designs can be found from $2500 to $5000. For $350 you can buy an almost exact reproduction from a company like Gardner. It should recieve the same exact deduction as the ones listed above. They are all service replacement parts

John & Keith, thanks for your replies. They along with a review of the photos on Doc Rebuild and last week's thread on blackout gives me a better understanding. I installed a Gardner System on my 67 was was trying to determine if I should do any restoration to it (part #'s, date code, other markings).

The JD is silent on part #'s, date code, markings so I assume judges look for finish, config and installation only for deductions.

In general judges can infer a date based upon features of configuration. That is one of the reasons the order of originality features was recently changed from FDICC to C (configuration) DICF. So expect that they will be able to identify your Gardener system as such and make a date as well as other originality matrix deductions.

I can't speak to the C2 exhaust systems, but there are some components of factory C3 systems that are stamped with part numbers. Those are not visible when the system is assembled, and thus are not called out in the TIM&JG and of course are not judged. I wouldn't be surprised, given the scarcity of original C3 exhaust systems, that most chassis judges do not know about them.
