F41 Shock - Date Acceptable Date Range

    Hi all,

I'm working on a 67 that has original F41 shocks. The car was built in Nov of 66. The shocks are all date mismatched between the late 65 and 66 model years. I have been told that F41 shocks can be acceptable for judging dated within two years of the cars build date. Is this correct? The shocks are undoubtedly original and came off this car.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Dave,

That sounds suspicious to me. But I have no insider information. What does the Judging Guide say about this?

The manual says nothing about the extensive date range.

      Thanks,
      Dave

If there was only one F41 car build a day between 65 and 67 that might be a statistical probability but given there were lots of them produced and its mid model year, not on the tail of a EOP sweep the floor and use up everything you can find event, its hard to justify the 65 dated shocks.

What owner & service history do you have and do all those people sign a warrant that those are the original shocks to that car?

Personally Dave, I have owned a lot of F40/F41 vehicles many unrestored over the years, also seen many go through the Bowtie system and never had a vehicle with simiar issues or noticed a discrepancy in date sequencing on any of the Bowtie candidates that indicated anything special caused these shock to fall out of the norm.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the information. I guess these were replace and put on the car at some point. Hmmm....

            Thanks,
            Dave

Dave - keep looking closely at the dated parts on that car
