    Find Any Treasure At Carlisle?

Anyone come home with any hard to find parts from Carlisle? I found a NOS two piece speedo cable (in the packaging) , the upper one was wrong,(ok as I already had that) however the lower (scarcer) one was spot on. Found a nice dated A/C blower with a perfect fan (mine was less than perfect) Not really great finds, but didn't come home empty handed! Awful lot of non vette parts being sold as vette parts!

First time there, had a great time. Found 5 wheels correct for my 63 SWC at a fair (not cheap) price and other 63 only parts and, more importantly, learned a lot from various vendors.

Found an air cleaner and duct work for my C3, great condition and at a fair (not cheap) price. Also got some manuals and misc small parts that are not particularly hard to find, but are nice to hold in your hand before you buy. There were a few parts that I wanted, but the seller wanted .....

Finally found a correct date coded gas cap for my LT-4. And it was the only C4 cap the guy had among 5000 sq/ft of parts spread out on tables.

Found correct dated starter for my 63. Talked to John Pirkle there and he said these are hard to find, so when I came accross one I bought it and thought price was good. Also found nice distributor cap and other misc.

Crowd good on Fri, but Sat dissapointing.. vendors complaining was slow and many left by Sat noon.. likely people stayed home due to hurricane.

Hard to get through this show in 2 days. Never did get around to all.

Fun time in downtown Carlisle Sat night.. about 400 vettes parked on downtown streets.. lots of people milling around them.. good fun.

I love carlisle but always overpriced by those out to make money, maybe not even own or ever owned a vette and could care less about helping corvette owners out, well at least not without you forking over many $$$$ for parts not worth half what they want or get...my 2 cents is don't pay the robbers and maybe they will forget vettes and go over to the ford or chrysler hobby.

I had a great time Friday and the show got busy as the weather was very nice.

Not a treasure but I ordered a new deck lid weatherstrip for my 67 because the GM rubber I put on years ago had the declk lid lifted a bit because it's too hard.

I was very lucky and picked up 3 difficult parts for my '71's. I got to see many of my fellow NCRS friends. This years swap meet vendors were way down from previous years, but it's still the best event I know of.

I went on Friday and walked my feet off. Picked up Al Knoch seat upholstery and convertible top. Found 2 gallons of '56-57 Venetian Red acrylic lacquer for a fair price (much cheaper than any present day source, if you can even find one). I don't plan to use them too soon, but bought them as insurance against the day that I will need them. Found another book with my car on the cover. To my complete surprise, I found a really neat little one page info sheet on the '57 Corvette with pictures of my car on both sides and an embroidered Corvette patch of appropriate vintage enclosed in plastic on one side. Also took a little more time than I usually do to look at the cars on display. Already looking forward to next year. Always a fun day.

Re: Find Any Treasure At Carlisle?

Due to a family commitment I had to go on Thursday and Friday only and head for home Saturday. Sounds like I got the best weather of the show anyway.

Went to the fairgrounds around noon on Thursday and when I walked through the Corvette America tent they had a clearance table with a repro air cleaner top for my 63 340 HP car. Even though it was not on my list mine is starting to rust and I thought, "For 20 bucks, why not?". Mine is just a driver so when they told me they were either blemished or not up to their standards I figured it will do. Have yet to find whatever is wrong with it so that's my find for this year.

Hope all you eastern seaboarders got home ok.

                      Norm;

Sounds like a good buy. You're lucky your original is just rusting. Mine has had all the chrome peel off the inside over the years. You know that's one healthy engine if it can digest chrome. I peeled a lot off by hand, but I'm sure some went through the carb.

Found a left and two right race tracks for 66-67 door panels. Not NOS but really nice with all tabs present.....

I picked up a set of NOS mid year gauge cluster lenses and a few other goodies from Joe Ray. Thanks again Joe.

Peter, congratulations on your finds and your car. As I am sure you know Venetian Red as applied at St. Louis was nitrocellulose, not acrylic.

Finally found correct spare tire carrier bolts for the 68' the one-year only short bolts-$10

Also scored an original 427 fan blade, several custom layers of paint but, very nice and very good price.

The biggest score was finally seeing the Miller's #3 LeMans car up close- WOW!!!! it is my new background for my computer!

                              Can't wait for next year.
