    Re: 71 Alarm Escutcheon

    Terry, here we go!

I am the original owner, which means I am old and forgetfull. That said, I best remember my lock mounted flush to the panel with no bezel.
Forty years ago there were other things on my mind

I had the car painted and questioned my judgement when I looked at the AIM and a friends car, also a '71. He is the original owner and has the bezel on his alarm lock.

To bezel or not to bezel, now that is the question? The AIM does show it so what do I do?

It slipped by me yesterday (see what a brand new day will bring) that your Corvette is a 1971. That does surprise me. I would not expect the B&S alarm lock on a 1971. If there is any chance of communication with earlier owners, a question about the alarm lock might be in order.
      Terry,

I can only go back two owners which takes me back to a used car lot in Michigan about 1978. My search ended there and my car is one of the few that there are no delivery records for so I can't start at the beginning either.

Too bad those records are missing. Mine are too, although I know where mine came from and I very much doubt it was a dealer trade.

If you ever have the occasion to have the lock out I have some dimensions in a 1970 AIM (not the usual one most folks have) that might shed some light on what happened. I can't remember ever seeing a B&S lock with an escutcheon, and it can't be the same one used on the other locks because the later locks are much larger in diameter than the B&S locks.

Ken, mine was not built long after yours in '72, while the "painter" didn't instal mine either, still no bezel to be found. I think I have before pics if you need me to look.

My 70 #12981 June 16 with the escutcheon. Mine was filled in by the original owner proir to 73. I found out when the alarm horn went off one day after going over a bump. Found the switch in a box of parts and when I looked at the filled hole from the inner side, I could see the circular hole with the notch perfectly since the patch was light compared to the dark fiberglass. I think if you check from that view as I did you'll know if the escutcheon was there originally.
