Are they supposed to fit loosely? I got one for my 54 from CC and it just floats in the slot. Is this the way it sould be? Thanks as always

Re: third arm seals
Well I have the same question as well.....assembled the entire frame on my 54 and installed the rubber ring and it really seemed useless as a seal since it would flip out of place with ease when the wheels turned. Almost as if the bearing was not seated properly in the third arm housing. I purchased a new bearing and race as well. We both may be looking for the same advise...- Top

Re: third arm seals
probably doesn't matter whether the seal is tight or loose on the 3rd arm housing as its purpose is to prevent dust/dirt from entering. the bearings i've been using for years are sealed bearings so the seal really is useless. the seals i have are tight on the 3rd arm housing but i bought them 20-30 years arg(from a source i can't recall). mike- Top

Re: third arm seals
Im glad to see Im not the only one, I too thought the 3rd arm wasnt seated properly. The original seal is 1/8 inch thick and of rubber. I tried to find some 1/8 inch rubber but to no avail. Almost looks like an oil filter ring is of the same thickness. I was going to try 3/16 material if I can find it but like Mike says, does it really matter if its a totally sealed bearing??? Thanks Mike. Guy- Top
