Put on a replacement NAPA pump, and 30,000 miles later (1 year ) no problems.

If you drive your cars a lot, replacement parts (not repros) may be the way to go.

I have all my original parts in boxes , waiting for my heirs to sell when I die. In the mean time, I drive the hell out my car and worry very little about break downs

I suspect tht your dad actually said "machts nichts" which literally translated "means/makes nothing".

        Dave,
I have a repro fuel pump on my 62 which I installed in 1995.
20,000 miles later it is still fine (knock on wood).
Also 4000 miles on my 57 FI car over the past 2 years on a old rebuilt original pump. Other then a few long screws stripping out I have had no problems.
And you know our Ohio gas is full of ethanol even if it is not stated on the pump.
        Hope you are doing well.

Buy a used OEM pump and send it to Arthur Gould; he is excellent for restoring the old fuel and water pumps. I had him restore a factory oem correct pump for a 60 vette and it works just fine. Cost me $80.00; very reasonable. He probably has the correct pump for your year car.

Bruce, you success is really what I would expect to get and I would think you will get many more miles and years as well. Still doing OK and thanks for asking.

I will probably do as I thought I would do. Just continue to run the original but rebuilt pump I rebuilt about 3 yrs. ago and rebuild the repo pump and place it in the trunk. Like everyone here, my list of doing to things for the car is growing. Fortunately it really is the fun stuff, like maintaining spares now.

I too had a fuel pump failure last year. None of you have said what the root cause of the failure was you experienced. I got on rockauot.com and got a new Aitex at a very resonable price. Looked just like the repo one, just clocked a little different. When I took the failed pump apart one of the check valves fell from the housing, Diaphram look pretty good, after a moment of playing with it the operating shaft fell from the upper housing. Is this what everyon else has experienced?

                Dave,

Where did you buy the repro fuel pump in the first place?

And, I wonder if there is more than one maker ( I doubt it) for it.
It would be interesting now to disassemble the repro and see what really failed.

I am not sure I want to expose the vendor, since they are not the one who made it. They treated me real fair when the first one failed in the first 2 mos. or so of operation. I think they would do the same today. Pretty sure it is the same repo pump that everyone is selling. The salesman on the phone, was the first time I heard his name, this time he was a real jerk, IMHO. We had a personality conflict after his first sentence. He ran off a bunch of baloney about things I never heard of. No, I don't know it all by a long shot, but I didn't fall of the turnip truck yesterday either. When I was redoing the car in 2008, I was on a very good first name basis it seemed when ever I called. Of course spending darn near all my resto money there, they heard my name often. I only called them once about this pump, so it wouldn't be fair to them. I would though call again, if I were to get the same people who I dealt with in the past.
