    Ignition lock replacement

I need to change out my ignition lock cylinder from my 71. Going over the chassis service manual, I am confused as to what is the proper sequences to use for this procedure.

I just replace the lockset in my 66. Don't know about 71 or how different the ignition lock is. But for the C2s and C1s, there is a small hole in the face of the ignition lock just beside the key slot. With the key in the ignition and use a paper clip inserted into the hole. Push in on the paper clip and turn the key counter clockwise. The lock should rotate and them pull out.

Don the 1968 Corvette was the first and last year for C3 ignition switch mounting in the dash and having a hole near the key slot.

The AIM instructions are clearer than the FSM instructions -- but it is still not easy. There are about ten ways to get the lock cylinder in wrong and only one way to get it right. Take Rich up on his offer.

Do you have a standard (non-adjustable) steering column or a tilt & telescoping column? Removing and replacing the lock cylinder is similar between the two, but there is a difference.

Here is the address for a paper and pics on replacing the lock cylinder on a standard C3 steering column.

If you had a T&T column here are the papers:
