    Scott,

Pictured on the left are 2 original screws (3822661, #10-12 X 9/16") and 8 original stamped steel nuts (3797428) that I removed from a red 1963 Corvette ( grills between the hood & windshield) in a junk yard in Leominster, MA, in the 1980's. The 3822661 screws were replaced with the 3848300 screws on 8/13/64 (AIM) and the 3797428 nuts were replaced with the 3846854 nuts on 8/13/64 (AIM). The 3797428 nuts measure about 0.67" by 0.44".

Pictured on the right are 2 NOS screws from my 1966 NOS rocker cover kit that I bought in the 1980's from my local Chevy dealer. The #10-16 X 5/8" screws (3848300 in the 1966 AIM) have a net effective length of about 9/16" with the attached star washer and small O-ring.

      Dave,

I have a similar set of screws and associated parts that came with a pair of 1967 NOS rocker panels and retainer support strips (picture #1). It's all GM stuff, but not the same finishes as original. Missing from the picture (but included in the package) are the screws that go to the far end of each rocker panel, and the four tiny spring-nuts they screw into. Those screws should be black, but in this NOS hardware kit they were chrome Philips oval head interior trim screws, which I will use in places where they are called for in the AIM. The spring-nut was just about an exact match to the original, though

I also took a closer look at my three surviving wiper grille screws, and noticed that two of them have a small unthreaded "bulb" section just under the head, while the third one has threads going all the way to the bottom of the head, like a regular screw. If this is the unthreaded section Rich was referring to, then it looks like I have two originals and one old replacement.

In picture #2, the two screws on the left have the unthreaded section just under the head. The screw on the right does not have this feature.

        Scott,

The 2 screws that I have in my photo from the red 63 Corvette have this "bulb" section as well. I do not know what happen to the other 6 screws. This detail stuff is really getting real deep.
