    I think you meant 3947772.

    John,

No, no, no, I did not. The 3937779 fan (2" pitch) and the 3947772 fan (2 1/4" pitch) were both available in the Fall of 1968. The fans are very similar and both were made by Schwitzer.

Also available in the Fall of 1968 were the 7-blade 18" fans made by Hayes-Albion (stamped "H" and "FRONT"), GM # 3947838 w/2" pitch and sometimes stamped "84" and GM # 3956684 w/2 1/4" pitch and stamped "94". These 2 Hayes-Albion fans were never sold over the counter.

In Jan. 1969 GM # 3937779 was replaced with GM # 3947772 which was then replaced with GM # 393996 in May 1972 as per Chevrolet Parts History for fans sold "over the counter". The dates have nothing to do with production line fans.

According to the 1969 Camaro AIM (UPC K02, sheet A1) four 7-blade fans are listed.
    3937779 replaced by 3947772
    3947838 replaced by 3956684
I can not read the date change in the revision record.

Enclosed are photos from two of my 1969 parts catalogs (Dec. 68 on left and Oct. 68 on right)

Years ago I had all 4 of the fans listed above. I sold my "914033 - J68 - 3937779" (Sept. 1968) fan back in 1990. I still have one other "3937779" fan somewhere in my garage attic.
The 3947772 fans are very common. The 3947772 fan was re-issued in the Fall of 1974 and used on the production line on 1975-1976 Chevy Novas (6 cyl. w/AC).

      Dave -

On known-original '69 Z/28's and L-78's, we find two fans - the one with the month/year date code and 3947772 stamped on the blade and the rectangular spokes with four rivets (the one in the photo I posted), and another that appears identical except there are no stampings on the blades and the spoke is arrowhead-shaped, with four rivets - don't know what the part number is for the latter fan.

        John,

The 1969 Camaros were made from August 1968 to November 1969 (16 months). I agree that most 1969 Z28's were issued the Schwitzer "dated" fan (GM # 3947772) or the Hayes-Albion fan (GM # 3956684) stamped "94" starting possibly about November 1968.
However, "early" 1969 Z28's were issued the Schwitzer "dated" fan (GM # 3937779) or the Hayes-Albion fan (GM # 3947838) with some stamped "84". I have studied these fans for over 20 year. You really have to study models made throughout the entire production year, not just the ones made from about Nov. 1968 to Nov. 1969.
Since you did not know the GM part of the Hayes-Albion fans I can see you really did not thoroughly study the 1969 Z28 fans. The very first 1969 Z28's made received the 67-68 Z28 5-blade fan.

Re: Non dated, non numbered parts as difficult to find as dated?

Joe - for 71 LT-1, what should be the part# and how many blades? Also, can I still get them from GM today?

          Thanks

          Pete

            Pete------

It was GM #3991420, a 5 blade fan. It's been discontinued for quite some time and can be difficult to find.
