    Muncie Tune-up in Michigan

My '67 wide ratio Muncie is having a hard time getting into 2nd. I can finesse my way into 2nd, but other drivers (not naming names) have a real hard time. I suspect the synchonizer is worn. The gear box has never been touched as long as I've owner the car (1994).

Any recomendations for Muncie rebuilders in S/E Michigan?
I'm in Ann Arbor so that area would be preferable.

    Thanks,

    John

    John,
No offfence, but have you looked at the linkage adjustments. I have found loose nuts on the levers many times.

Are you getting any gear grinding when shifting?

This is good advice based on personal experience with this same issue. It could end up being a trans problem, but with what you've described, I'd diagnose shifter linkage adjustment/repair/replacement. Especially if the shifter has not been serviced/adjusted in a while, and/or is the original, and/or has a fair amount of miles.

          Hi Guys,

I have thought about a linkage too. It definitely has a tendency to grind going into 2nd - especially when its cold.

I spoke to the local dealer and they asked if I could shift into second with the car standing still - which I can with no problem. Based on that they felt that it was a gear problem and not a linkage issue.

I am in no way an expert on transmissions. I did watch a video on rebuilding a Muncie - which was right before I decided to ask for references on rebuilders.

I am willing to look at the linkage - any suggestions on what to look for?

          Thanks,

          John

            John,

Rather than take up space here on a topic that has been well developed, just use the search function for "Muncie Linkage" You will get a lot of good advice. Good luck, I always look for the easy stuff first. I hope it is only a loose bolt.
