    '73 Front Alignment Shim

Needing a front wheel alignment coming up soon and wondered which of the two alignment shim shapes were correct?

On my driver's side I have BOTH square flat top and round top. The passenger's side is a bit more difficult to see under the a/c compressor on the LS4.

The NCRS Judging guides is too vague for me to understand..just says should have tabs on top?

I wanted to purchase the shims before taking the car for alignment so they just don't put any type of shims on the car. Not sure what they use today at the local Firestone Store?

After determining which shim is correct...where do I get them? Paragon, Corvette America etc?

    Thanks in advance.

The original style shims have a flat-topped "tab" on the top as seen in the attached photo. The original shims were BARE STEEL. Most of the reproductions available today, including those pictured, are zinc plated. If you want bare metal shims, strip off the zinc plating with a mild acid. I won't, though as I do not like rust.

Also, the original shims usually had an "arrow-like" manufacturer's ID mark stamped on them but it's not visible with the shims installed.

You can actually have the alignment done with any shims. Then, you can change them later to the same shim pack of the reproduction shims.

I think this style is reproduced by Paragon. However, I think that most of the other vendors like Dr. Rebuild have them, too.
