1966 Hub cap part number detail - judging

Page 83 of the judging guide shows a picture of the back side of the 66 hub cap spinner.

    It says:

    ASSY 3876544
    3876545
(on the third line the vendor logo).

Was there a time before GM had to stop selling the service part with spinners that the logo disappeared?

Ron -- I don't have the '66 TIM&JG, but I notice that the '....44' is the same part # as shows for the '66 emblem in the Oct '66 (1st issue 1967) P&A30 catalog. Is this number cast into the back of one of the ears ?

I have a '65 in front of me; just the bare casting (no center emblem) and I see a cast # that is different than the catalog part # for the emblem, from Gr 5.871, on the inside rim [nothing on the ears].

        Wayne,
At least for 1966 that is why the two numbers are there, the ASSY number is what you would get from the dealer, and the the actual cast part is what that other number is.

But here is the point - the JG states there is a vendor logo there...and at some time in service that logo might have disappeared.

Ron, I'm not sure what your asking. I have no answer on when the logo may have disappeared, but I do have several sets of original spinners. They all have line 1: "ASSY 3876544" Line 2:"3876545" Line 3: is a logo that has "General Detroit" in it. Also the size and locations are different on the originals compared to repop's. I hope this helps, sincerely Brian

            Brian,
I had some in 1982 dated boxes, well before these were a repro thing and they did not have the logo under the top two part numbers. So, I'm asking if there are others out there - looks like the logo got scrubbed sometime after 1966.
