John, if you have one already - would appreciate the wing height and width measurements. That might keep me from wasting money. Thanks, Gary....

        John,

Many thanks for the measurements. 56-7 wing nuts are:
        1) Wing span = 1.25"
        2) Wing height = .375"
        3) Base diameter = .703"

Measurements you made are same as the Chrylser wing nuts dimensions. Close, but no cigar.

You saved me some money. Thanks,

        Gary

how do you measure wing height? the measurement i gave was from the bottom of the wing nut to the top. if i took away the thickness of the center it would measure .375"

            John,

Correct, measure from the bottom of the base to the top of the wing.

Over the last ten years I've bought every wing nut I've come across at fastener, automotive stores, swap meets, etc. to compare and so far no joy.

            Thanks,

            Gary

Gary, the ones on ebay are sooooooo close not even my anal-ass can denie it, these wings are 96% correct! If you want them perfict you will have to sand the sharp edge off of very top edges, hope that info helps, I got suckeered on one of the 19.oo ones then comparied it to the 3.oo ones & conclude wings are from the same vender, the 19.oo ones are not GM nos as advertized......hope this info helps you capture a little joy.

                Adam,

Last year I took a couple of those and cut the wings down with a die grinder off of an aluminum pattern I made. Did pretty good and got pretty close with that project. Of course the modified wing nuts require chrome plating.

The wings on those are a tad bit thicker than the originals.

Continuing, those with a sharp eye can see the grind out versus the original stamp shear in the blanking process.

Now which one of these 4 wing nuts in the attached picture is a $100 one?

Highly unlikely they are from the 50's, but 60's - 70's guaranteed.

I will roll the dice men,hit me & give me the left side next to the rusty one for 100.oo, Really, just assanine for any line judge to even try to figure out what is 100% original, how do we know if it was over the counter GM from 1960 second design, besides the original 1st issue factory line wings rusted a month after they were in the elements. I went with the 96% close enough reissue & have not lost sleep or pointsI have an original nut stripped & rusted & somewhat bent to hell, it sits in the bottom of the left overs can

I was looking at wing nuts for a 1957 I assumed the hole was 1/4 inch, my customer said he needed 5/16..............is that correct.
                            Thanks JOHN
