    Bill Ogden (45584) & Photos

I've enjoyed reading Bill's When we were young... series.....started from the back of the board around 2008 & am now up to Chp. 30.

But all the pics are gone . I asked on the HELP board & was told to ask Bill since the pics aren't uploaded to the board.

Bill...don't do this to me...I need the visuals!

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Hi Peter, if you're going to the Sacramento Regional I'll bring the 2nd book by Bill, can't find the first book for now. If you want to buy one ISBN 9781453622933 on Amazon etc. Maybe someone has the ISBN for the 1st book too. Happy reading!

I wonder why Bill doesn't sell the books via the NCRS store- seems like a natural fit to me. I'd rather see the money go them rather than Amazon.

Many thanks for the offer Dan...however, the meet is scheduled right about the time my vette should be showing up at my door. It's in FL now, hopefully getting sorted in preparation for losing it's Trailer Queen (Top Flight) life & becoming a driver...it's gonna have to earn it's keep, "On The Road Again".

Bad timing for me, as I will make that trip in the Vette w/in a few months to visit friends.

Obviously, a lot has happened to Bill since 2008 (where I've started from in reading this board)...I'll be picking up his 1st book soon.

                Michael.

Not something the NCRS store wants to offer. I tried. Maybe not related to the Corvette hobby enough. I accept that. Its about a life style in the 1960's that happened to include a Corvette....why would any of our members be interested in that?...most of which doesn't exist anymore. Why would we want to read about that old stuff?

I think most of us have a bittersweet longing hidden away inside

of you tell me that you like retracing the steps outlined in these

path until you find your yearning fulfilled too, if only partially and
                just for the moment.
Recently I drove to the little town of Chenoa, Illinois, to pick up a

of Bloomington. I had taken I-55 out of Chicago, and in about
two hours exited east at US Route 24 and headed into town. At
the first traffic light I noticed I was about to cross historic Route
66, sandwiched between the interstate and the railroad tracks that
follow endlessly along. The last time I passed this intersection was
fifty years ago to the month
for California. Land sakes alive! I turned onto the old road and for

how I felt back then; wondering if anything would be the same
US Route 66 became a four-lane highway with a grassy median
back then as it eased out of town. Two lanes were now removed
but the outline of where they were was still very visible, weed free
and curiously memorialized in some strange way as if waiting to

lonely monuments to a bygone era. The road quietly wound around
the countryside with virtually no traffic, still in sight of the busy
I-55 running parallel. I drove through the little town of Lexington
with its closed shops and empty buildings and down to the village
of Towanda past a crumbling rail station where I turned around
and headed back. Places that surely would have been bustling in

Yet there was something about this little adventure that made it

                exist at all.
What a wonderful feeling it is to reminisce. So often when traveling

mountains and green valleys, golden wheat fields and dry deserts,

                hardworking souls.
So volume 3 is dedicated to all the road warriors who dream of

                pause to your day.

                  I'm surprised and disappointed.

Absolutely. If anything embodies what this club is supposed to be about, it is these stories. Without memories/visuals such as these, this hobby would fade away. Yes, the cars are visceral to drive, but there is so much more that makes us covet them.
I definitely think the Driveline should promote them.
