71 LT-1 radiator to hood air dam foam question

DeWitt put in new copper core attached to tanks. Reinstalled, added foam, no leaks and temp down so all looks good so i am happy-driving around today and happy.

Not sure how to put on the Dr Rebuild radiator to hood air dam 3 piece set though. It is a set because it says early 71 lt-1 so it is 3 piece. I assume this is correct for 1149 august 70 3rd(?) week build. Two of the three pieces look to be about 12 1/4 inches long and what I presume is middle is 9 1/2.

Two questions: the smaller piece - is that dead center of radiator support and then the other two bump up against each side or is there a space between the three pieces? also, is the center foam right up against the bolts that attach shround to support?

If anyone has a picture great; if not, I am sure I can follow your instructions. Thanks appreciated.

Let's see if I have posted these pictures before.

This is a Jan 29th 1970, so you may want to wait and see if anyone with a early 1971 posts, but I doubt there is much difference. I would personally lean toward the one-piece for your car, but if you have done the research and are sure three pieces are correct her's your pictures.

Terry - incredibly helpful pictures. In fact now not positive I put top of radiator foam exactly thought close. But that is something else and I don't feel like taking out again, at least for now. But specific to air dam great pictures.

But no I am embarrased to say I didn't do the research. Was in a rush, realized I had to pick one while ordering and figured 3rd week of production was "early". So you are right I will wait to see if any other early folks know (or maybe is there an app vin cutoff?). Won't put on till hear. Thanks again for the great pictures.

People put these on and I doubt there was any template -- so close is good enough.

There is no doubt your 1971 is "early." Just remember it is a whole model year -- all seven months of it -- from your car.

My 5 star 70 LT-1 #14803 has a 1 piece air dam. I always thought all later 70's and 71's had the 1 piece dam.

Dave - could be. I don't know any better. Just saw that Dr Rebuild had two offerings so went with first because my vin seemed "early". But would have no idea if it turns out there really wasn't a 3 piece ever for 71. But now beginning to sound like it. I guess I will just buy the one piece unless someone else with a 71 indicates differently. thanks

My old 71 LT-1 S/N 1914 had a 1 piece hood to radiator air dam.
