    Car history

Is there a way the average guy can trace their car, (car's) history back to the dealer without calling each prior owner on down line over and over again? If not what is the next step? Thank's, Brad,

    Re: Car history

It all depends Brad. Most of the time these old cars have traveled across state lines. That makes it more difficult because different states have different policies when it comes to keeping records.

It just depends on your state, how many owners and how many states are involved.

For a simple answer to your question without knowing all of the facts, No, there is no easy way for the average guy to obtain detailed owner info in most cases.

      Brad,

In my case, purchasing the NCRS Data Shipping Report was one of the best investments I've even made. For $40 dollars, not only did I fing the originalting delear and zone, but the selling dealer was still in business.

I was able to trace and contact many of the previous owners and secured it's original protecto plate, window sticker and an original set of keys from one of them.

Go ahead and purchase the Shipping report and work forward like I did. Luckily my car spent it's first 20 years in North Carolina, the DMV was able to provide me with all the NC titles as well as the MSO.

      Good Luck

      Robert

I think the Shipping Data Reports only go back to '62.

Brad, each owner may have some good information, which may include changes to the car and other history. I have contacted the three owners and family members of my '57 and have received some great information. The third owner of my car, the one I purchased it from, I see each year and stay in contact via email weekly. A couple of weeks ago I received some new info. from him I did not know before. Subsequent discussions from all and their family members have revealed valuable information, including the selling dealer, vacations in the car on the old Route 66, a trip to Sebring, racing history, cam change, optimal tune/ign map, name of body shop repainting the car in early 60's, etc..There is a lot of history with these cars and I am glad I know as much as I do about mine and the people who owned it before me.

          Steve

I had amazing luck! I can't say enough good things about Bill and his service! He was almost as excited as I was as he tracked down previous owners for me and put me in touch with them!

I AGREE! Bill is the man. He's found almost all the owners for my Vette, and a whole bunch of paper work and receipts. Very stand up guy and EASY to deal with.

I have worked with Bill too. He helped me reunite an original window sticker with a car last year !!

                  Re: Car history

If you get lucky and obtain a list of former owners, you will have to perform lot of computer searching to try and come up with phone numbers and then make calls. Keep in mind, even if you make contact with a prior owner(s), your car may have been nothing more than a car to drive to work or a vehicle purchased to flip and make a few dollars. I obtained the entire owner history of my 1960 because it remained in FL from 1960 until 1979 where it was purchased and moved to OK. Out of the 6 owners prior to me, I was able to contact the original owner's son and he could not remember what color the car was; no box of parts in the attic, no photos, no family memories of it. It was a big let down, but I tried.

You never know where the search may lead you. Good luck.
