    '57 Repairs - Bottom side

The '57 that I am involved in has been stripped and now we are starting to think about the repairing the stress cracks on the bottom side.

How would be the best way to make the repairs so that the repairs will look natural. Most of the repairs is where there is no paint at all and it is not cover up by blackout.

Is there a way to tint the resin to look natural? Open to suggestions.

    Thanks!

i simply match the color of the floor pan and lightly paint over the repair area. doubt you'll be able to tint resin, make repair and totally hide the repair. mike

Different colors can be obtained from marine suppliers. You can mix the colors to get the right shade or tint in the resin. Corvette panel suppliers like Corvette Image will also sell you there colored resin. Sincerely, Mark PS Personally I do not mind the stress cracks underneath. They are kind of like the wrinkes we aquire over the years; that add character.

I'm with mike, virtually impossible to tint the resin properly, i've spent lots of time and material trying and finally gave up, between the black out and body color overspray, plus the frame rails, repairs on the underside usually get covered up anyway

I bought glass supplies from Fibre Glast (website link below). They have tinting colors for their resin. The tints are not cheap, about $15 for half pint can and they go a long way. I bought cream, white, and yellow, and did a lot of experimenting. End result was very good. I'm not saying you can't find the repairs if you look hard enough.

If you go this route, the lesson I learned was a very small amount of tinting is all that is needed. You don't want the resin, and thus the patch to end up opaque, just use enough tint to give a little color and end up with a translucent patch.

I end up mixing 1 - 2 ounce batches of resin when patching the bottom and used a wooden tooth pick to add very small amounts of the tint. Picture are of before I cleaned the area, after I cleaned the area and after patching the two holes. I patched 20 plus holes and other cracks.

Fibre Glast is a leading supplier of fiberglass & composite materials. A source for Carbon Fiber, Kevlar, Fiberglass, Resin, Gel Coat & much more.

              I use Glasin
it has a whitish finish to it
              I have never tinted it.
but I guess I could try
