Re: Intake Guard/Shield
i always wondered if that shield really did any good because if you take one off it is full if burnt oil. i would think the oil would be better off just hitting the manifold and falling back down. JMHO
come to think of it the aluminum intake on BBC had no shield riveted on.
Some big blocks have the shield. The LS-6 manifold definitely did. I believe the 1968-69 390 HP aluminum manifolds did, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Intake Guard/Shield
it is a over the counter piece for race cars. i just posted this to show how they cover the whole bottom to keep the heat off of the intake runners for better fuel distribution.- Top

Re: Intake Guard/Shield
if i remember correctly the 3947084 and 083 did not have the shield. i wonder if the ones you mentioned had it because they were of the low riser design and the underside may have be different than the 083/084 manifolds- Top

Re: Intake Guard/Shield
Well, whatever they're used on, you might want to check out Bill W.'s source because if you buy them from the General, list is $5.60 each, trade at $4.20 - my extras are going under lock and key with my spare FI parts.
You know the place - where you left the note to your wife that reads "Do not sell these parts for what $$ I told you I paid for them. Check with _________ first!!"- Top

Yes, I think the low profile design of the manifolds I mentioned was probably the biggest factor in their being equipped with the shields. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

It won't be easy. The intake manifold GUARD (shield) for your application, GM #3894378, was unique to the 1967 Corvette with L-68 and L-71 applications. It was not used for any other Chevrolet or GM applications. It was discontinued without supercession in June, 1974. I'll bet there was not a dealer in the country that stocked this part then and now it's 37 years later! In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
