    1956-1957 power window conduit opening

I am in the process of restoing an early 56 that had power windows. The fiberglass was filled in but you can tell. Can anyone provide the actual dimensions or diagram of the opening? I have the conduit so it is just a question of making the holes the right size. Bryan Hepper 42470

      Hey Bryan,
Call me. Need to talk to you about the valve covers and the crossmember.
I will be gone most of the day but you can call tonight.

Bryan, my '61 measures 1.7" x 1.1" but keep in mind that they were rough cut.
If you don't have the original outline in the fiberglass, the 2 ends have a radius.

what do you mean by radius? Do you mean openings have a bevel to them to elminate cracking maybe? sort smoothed edges rounded?

            Bryan -

The four corners of the conduit hole in the door have a 1/8" radius (not just square corners), as shown in the Assembly Manual, RPO 426, sheet 2.00, View "B".

                Bryan,

Nolan Adams page 370 has a great picture of the cut out. If you need, I can take some pictures of mine and email.

I actually may be able to help. Currently, my 57 with "original windows" is dismantiled for paint. I could trace the openings on both saides for your reference. advise Jerry

Jerry that would be great. I have the openings already in the Doors. they glassed over the openings in the pillars. I can see the depression outlines but I would like to be sure. I am rebuilding the pillar post. I think either the fiberglass has weakened or the metal suooport is broken. either way I have the meatl support. I am returning the car to its original state.
if you can send dimensions and distance from iside and out side as well as height from hinges that would be great. i can forward my email address if you wish.

Hi Bryan, are you sure it had power windows, when you say it has been glassed over, most all C1 door pillers in that area have an outline for position of power window cutouts. Just tring to understand when you say they were glassed over because untampered originals will sometimes give that appearance too OK, about your door openings, mine has it too, its a early 57 vin, as I recall, many or all 56 corvettes have the doors preped for power windows with the cutouts made alwready(56's had more power accs. offered than 57) You must look to see if the screw holes have threads in them at the cutout in doors, are the holes for the power regulator on door panel area still filled in, did you see where the four wire clips & screws were located, did you see where the steel rain guard was screwed in to protect power switch. I though mine was power when I saw the cut outs in my door too, but there was no other traces for all other parts of this system, even the holes for relay were there but no threads thru the glass, the bonding dabs the factory filled in fell out over the years.
