soft top and hard top alternatives and judging

I have a hard top for my 1960, but it probably will not be restored when I have the car judged.

The Judging sheets say "Judge one top only". If my car has the mounting stuff in the decklid, but I don't have the hard top at judging, will I take a hit?

    Thanks,

    Don

I think the only time you need both tops (if equipped) is for PV (going for Duntov). For Flight judging it is only one top as the manual says. But I seem to remember someone taking a hit for not having the soft top under the hardtop (judges could see it was not present looking past the seats). BUT, I believe you would be safe with a soft top only for flight judging. But then I could be wrong, hopefully someone else will confirm . . . or say I'm wrong. Good luck, Don H.

Soft top only will be no problem. They will judge it only and give you a pass on the hard top.

        Thanks,

Some other opinion only questions - I like the idea of having a hard top, bu

I have started taking my hardtop apart and just realized it is a 58 top and my car is a 60.

While I like the idea of having a hardtop, I also realize that most of them just sit around and collect dust. Why put a hardtop on a convertible.

I had decided that having the top professionally restored by Glassworks or Auto Entec was not worth the $4,000 restoration cost to me to have a hardtop, but if I could do it myself for the cost of the kit and having the shell painted (about $1,500 my estimate), then it would be worth it.

What your opinion for having an incorrect year restored hardtop versus no hardtop at all?

        Thanks,

        Don

          Don,

PV - IIRC condition is not considered. Only functionality. Know tires have to original type and hubcaps attached. Date codes aren't checked as far as I know. When in doubt check with the Team Leader - they're the ultimate authority on a PV.

Judges may well catch wrong year top and make major deductions

Personally I like the look of a hardtop on the car. Also it is nicer in non top down weather. It is a pain to have to store it but sometimes we complain too much (also my opinion). Don H.
