Are you sure the casting date is not G218?

Maybe even G219. Beautiful grain and stamping on an over-the counter L88.

Pat, me thinks that someone goofed when they made the brass plate, that went into the mold, for the casting number.

            Patrick,

My mistake as I was having problems downloading from my i-phone.

Looks like G219 which is the right time frame for a 3963512 block. I think the first 512 blocks were cast around November 68 and replaced the 270 blocks.

                Patrick,

This L-88 assembly was delivered from GM to a High School in Tennessee complete with aluminum heads.
It was on a frame with an aluminum radiator and ignition system.
The instructor cranked it up not knowing one of the students had dropped a nut down the carb.
                Only lost one piston.
Got a total of about 5 minutes of running time.
Also this one had closed chamber pistons and an open chamber heads.
