    Rear spring rebuild

Current Corvette Restorer has an article on rebuilding the the rear spring on a C2/C3 which appears to be a starightforward process. Does one have to be concerned with the steel itself being spent, i.e. no longer having the correct spring rate if you will? In which case it would not be worthwhile investing the time to make it look good.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Jack,

Assemble the spring and measure the free arch. If the arch is close to spec and there is no obvious pitting the spring should be worth restoring.

I have re-arched springs (no heat - just a hammer) on a '60 & '65. Neither one lasted although one bent back much quicker under stress (if you know what I mean). The other was driven pretty easy (but driven a fair amount) and lasted about 6 years. Just my experience, good luck. Don H.

          Micheal,

Off the top of my head, I think it's 10.0", but I don't remember the tolerance. Check the archives. The spec is there somewhere.
