After finally getting to drive my 65 small block the clutch I used is too stiff for my wife to push. I had installed a Centerforce 2 clutch, pressure and throwout bearing and now have it back out of the car (had no idea how hard that was to get the tranny out) and want recommendations on more or less a stock diaphram unit to put back in car. Street driver, small block with an occasional burnout or two. 365 hp. Thanks, Mike

Easy one.
LUK part number 04-021
AC Delco part number 38-1146
Either of the above are a complete kit which includes pressure plate assembly, friction disc, and release bearing. I think I might go with the LUK kit as I'm not sure of the manufacturing source of the Delco kit.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C2 Clutch Recommendation
Michael,
I did the same thing years ago and when my left leg got bigger than my right I decided to go stock pressure on the pressure plate.
My floor flexed when I pushed the clutch pedal and I broke one Z bar and one clutch push rod.
NO MORE of that for me either.
The higher pressure was good for slicks at the drag strip but with the tires that fit our cars the stock pressure is the way to go.

Mike-----
If you go with the LUK kit, confirm that it's for a 10.4" clutch friction disc with 10 spline center. I'm 99.9% sure it will be, but always confirm before purchase. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

You must not have used the Centerforce clutch?
It has a heavier plate pressure and a light clutch pedal. Softer than stock.
I love my CF II clutch. The centrifugal weights do clatter a bit at idle.
But you can't beat the positive engagement and the easy pedal.
Nothing wrong with the LUK. But it will give your leg a harder workout than the CF II- Top

Re: C2 Clutch Recommendation
Michael, I am 6ft 290 lbs and had a hard time pushing the pedal with the CF II. Mine is or was the conterweighted one and clutch adjustment was a problem too. It was all brand new and a new flywheel also. I centainly didn`t like mine.- Top

Re: C2 Clutch Recommendation
The centerforce clutches require you to use an adjustable ball stud or you may find the pedal at the floor. Many get caught by this over the years. Some had issue with those weights coming off too. Not sure just how big a problem that was or is but I've seen it. If you use the CF and adjustable stud be sure to weld it in position. I never wanted to deal with all that and only wanted to install the trans once so we used Hay's street & strip clutches. They bolted in and worked pretty good, however the kid just burnt one out at the track. He hit into the 11's with his 75 but smoked the clutch. Glad I built him a 12 bolt, he broke 2 ST-10's already but the diff is rock solid.
Good luck with your choice. The LUK are supposed to be pretty good as well but I haven't used one.
Hey Dom did you own my 69 veret years ago? When I bought it the floor board was blown out under the pedal I had to 'glass the floor back in pieces but it looks good now.- Top

Re: C2 Clutch Recommendation
All------
The LUK unit I mentioned is equivalent to and a direct replacement for the original clutch. Therefore, its performance and pedal characteristics are similar to the original.
With a Corvette I do not recommend deviating very much from the original set-up. In fact, the best possible solution is a clutch system composed of all the original GM pieces. However, the major components are all discontinued now and difficult to find NOS.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Gary,
No it wasn't your car.
But there was a clutch and ignition company in Huntinginton Beach CA (Hays) that gave me the clutch to test and the pressure was about 3800 lbs.
I think the stock pressurplate is about 1800 lbs.
What a waste, couldn't shift fast (power shift) because it took to much time to get the clutch to disengage.

Re: C2 Clutch Recommendation
Hi Joe, Being I am so long in getting this car back together even though I went with a HP clutch setup all the components are NOS Gm for all the linkage and fork parts. I have had plenty of time to shop E-Bay over the years to locate all the parts. Glad I bough most years ago too. Thanks, Mike- Top
