1965 Coupe Tires - Diamondback Tires?

Looking into getting the right "NCRS" judging friendly set of tires.

    1) Red line, white line?

    2) Diamonback? Which model?

Dean, the Diamondbacks use different tire mfgs therefore the sidewalls and radial carcass would not be correct for 1965. 1965 had blackwall, whitewall, and goldline bias choices, no redline until '67 as an option. Check Kelsey's GY's.

      Dean,

I bought a set of Firestone goldline 205/75-15 radials for my '65 from Diamondback. They are a nice tire and conform to the NCRS Judging Manual requiements for a replacement radial tires and match my original Firestone Super Sports goldline spare.

Would same tire in a white line be just as acceptable as the Goldline for judging?

          James,

Is there still an option to buy a Firestone or Michelin? If so, which did you get? Did you buy direct from Diamondback or elsewhere?

          Thanks!

            Dean,

Yes but you will have a hard time finding a whitewall tire with the correct 1 inch wide whitewall. The only OEM tire that I can find with a whitewall is the 205/75-15 Firestore FR380. This tire does not have the correct 1 inch wide white wall but it will be as close as you will get if you want a whitewall radial tire. I located the Firestone FR380 tire at Online Tires at http://www.onlinetires.com/. This is the same tire that Diamondback makes the goldline radial from. You could ask them to remove the whitewall and give you the tire in a blackwall with the Firestone labeling on the sidewall. I checked into having Diamondback do this for my '64 convertible so that I would get judging points for having a correct OEM replacement radial tire.

As of now the Firestone FR380 is the only OEM 205/75-15 tire that I have been able to locate on the internet. Kelsey tire may be able to furnish you with a Goodyear tire without a whitewall also. Although not a OEM tire Uniroyal makes a blackwall radial in the 205/75/15 size also. Up until about a year ago, Michelin and General made blackwall radial tires in the 205/75-15 size but the supply has dried up.

I bought my Firestone goldline radials direct from Diamondback.

            I hope this helps.

            Best Regards,

              Nick -

Call Diamond Back and ask (www.dbtires.com); they only sell direct - their tires are made to individual orders.
