    Re: 1973 Factory Primer Corvette?

I am off to Frisco shortly, but I will see if I can squeeze your request in. I have pictures from 2003 when it was in the hands of the second owner -- a GM engineer. I think I have more recent photos as well.

See what you miss when you don't come to the convention?

I worked at the Framingham Mass. Rail yard GM auto terminal from 1973-1980 and i remember seeing a couple of 73's in black that went to a dealer in Rhode Island, and whenever a Corvette came in primer it was a light gray sealer color and the rubber bumpers were silver painted. I wish i had taken the build sheets from the cars.

            Should '73 owners take insult?

'73 LS-4 454, Found it desirable for 22 years now!

I was insulted, BUT, I KNOW what great cars the 73s are.

I don't have any from the convention, but others might. These are from 2003 IIRC. The current owner said these were the first time he had seen the soft top. He has always shown the car with the hard top in place (it is a two top car). I have many other pictures but they are all detail shots of typical early C3 components.

Back in 1996 I saw a triple black 1971 LS5. two top convertible in the hands of the original owner from Tennessee. Another SPEC trim tag. He was not an NCRS member, so we are unlikely to see that car while he is the custodian. The dealer charged him $20 extra for the black paint. There are some unusual Corvettes out there. We haven't seen them all by a long shot.

Terry... I believe the car of which you speak is currently owned by a NCRS member...
I was at his house yesterday checking out a 66 L36 Coupe he just picked up. Trophy Blue over Dark Blue -
We were there for a few hours, went into the other garage and checked out the black 71 LS5 - mostly because my brother drove his Black 73 L82 over and they were comparing the tags etc.

He bought it from the original owner's son, 1971 LS5 Two top (black vinyl covered hardtop) AC Roadster - black Leather - with everything except PW and rear defog. 19k miles kept in a climate controlled garage it's entire life.
He has all of the ordering paperwork and when he pulled the tank sheet down (in a youtube vid) it has multiple line items for the paint.
FWIW the ordering paperwork states - if car cannot be built Black - build in Brandshatch Green, - presumably there would never have been a reason to ship the car in primer. TT shows - SPECIAL in paint field. He sent photos of the Tank sheet to Al Grenning maybe a year ago when he was having the paper on his 67 L68 verified prior to selling it.

Glad to hear of that car -- again. Try to encourage him to bring the car for Bow Tie sign-off when we start up our engines again.
