After removing my original 340 HP distributor a few weeks ago I noticed a lot of play when the shaft is held and the gear is turned (radial play ?).
Today I drove the roll pin through the gear and discovered the problem.
The 1/8" roll pin goes through a 3/16" hole in the shaft thus creating lots of clearence.
I took the roll pin out of another 985 distributor and the hole in the gear was 1/8" the same as the hole in the shaft. Both distributors have the same date 1 M 20 on the band.
I have 2 other distributors 1110947 and a 1111152 which both use 3/16 roll pins.
I'm guessing that at some point the dist gear was changed and the 1/8" rollpin gear was used.
Does anyone know if the 985 shaft design was changed at some point to have the different size hole? Any opinions?
See attached pictures of the 2 985 being compared and the 2 other distributors separetly.
