    1972 LT1 Hood Stripe

Is the stencil from Corvette America wrong? It appears not to be the same as any picture I can find. The inner stripe follows the outer stripe, not the contour of the hood bulge.

    Rich,

Not sure if they're still in business but when I re-did my '72 used a stencil from Stencil and Stripes. Very accurate and even emulated the "blooper" on the front left corner where the factory original stripes had a minor mis-alignment.

The guy from Stencils & Stripes traced his LT1 products from original paint stripes. I saw him do it. Original LT1 masks were hand applied and there is some variation in them. Some align much better than others.

While he emulated the "blooper" as you put it, his stencils were made with a laser and not the steel rule die stamp that was originally used. Those in the know can tell the difference.

Terry, did any on original cars match up "almost" perfectly?

Yes Steve, I have seen some (very few) original stripes that were almost perfectly aligned. I don't know if the boss was watching at that moment, or what prompted that degree of exactness, but it was uncommon.
