    A.I.R. pipe finish

    What is the correct finish for A.I.R. pipes/tubes? My TIM/JG (4th edition) says "brown in color" for 327 & "plated brown ... tubes are not painted" for 427. Dobbins says "black oxide". Looking for something to use to approximate the original color & gloss level.

      I think the tubes were a finish called black zinc. This finish varies somewhat from a very dark brown, to a black.

          This is what I have about the finish. The manufacturing process, thickness of coating, and engine heat after installation varies the original color. Take pictures of installed pipes to compare and check reproduction parts.

              Yes - Black zinc. With heat and time they changed to a greenish brown.
