C1 Speedometer

Had my speedo rebuilt several years ago, looks good but not the most accurate thing. At 55 it is on the money, below that it reads slow and above that it reads high. Is there someone out there that can rebuild these to be accurate from zero on up or am I just chasing a dream?

Terry, How old is the speedo cable? Maby get ahold of a cheep repo cable & temporarly hook it up to see if there is improvement, but I am guessing you have replaced the cable alwready. Red Line did a few of my gauges & were OK. Thinking about this further leads me to believe it may well be the speedo head.

New speedo cable, I guess no one knows how to fix these old speedos. Hard to believe I'm the only one that ever had this problem. Oh well

I guess not, I put 1485 miles in 6 days going to North Carolina over Halloween weekend, That's when I noticed my speedo is no longer accurate. Put a little over 7000 miles on it this year. I always thought they were built to be driven.

The speedo in my 62 is within 4 mph at most speeds according to the speed function on my GPS.
So I just keep the GPS handy.

You are not alone. After I installed a new needle in my '59s speedometer, it then read similar to yours. I didn't have it calibrated. Prior to the needle change it was pretty accurate.

Below 55, mine is off about 12-15 mph. It reads slower. So I have to be careful. At 60 it's quite accurate. The repro needle must be a slightly different weight. At 60 it's pointing up, so no gravity effect. Below 60 maybe the extra weight is making it read lower as the needle is hanging way out on the left side.
