Hi Nick ! Do you have your original now that has failed, or do you need a complete unit ?

I guess my question is, what is on your car now ? A failed original or a replacement ?

I believe the original alternator part number will be 10480202.

        Re: 96 Alternator

Gentlemen, attached is a photo of the original alternator off of my 1995 LT1. It shows part number 10480139. It has a date stamp of 72794. This is July 27, 1994. My build date is August 4, 1994. The second day of 1995 Production.

The NCRS Judging Manual for 1994-96 shows a part number for the LT1 for 1995 and 1996 as 10488139. Seems to be a differance.
Also the Judging Manual shows part number 1040200 for 1995 and 1996 for the LT1.

Just my two cents in trying to help.

I think the JG has it wrong. Early 1995 used GM #10480139. Your car is about as early as a 1995 could be so you have the correct alternator.

Late 1995 as well as all 1996 LT1 were supposed to have used GM #10480202. I have no idea when the change-over occurred.

Both alternators are 140 amp units.

            Joe, I agree 100%.

Thanks again, maybe I will start another survey to find out when the change over took place. I said I would never do another one, but .

              Hi Tom,
I'm thinking that it's a replacement since there are no part or date #s visible on the casing!!My SYS warning light flashed a few times at idle yesterday,so I'm thinking alt.??Nice to here from you again and THANKS!!

Not sure I'd jump right to the alternator on an SYS flash. Was the battery drained or has the car been sitting for a long period ??

                  Re: 96 Alternator

I just examined 2 96 LT1's. I was unable to locate a part number on the alternator of either. One is a known original, and I assume the other was too. No date or part number visible.

OK Tom,so what's a guy supposed to do when you get your car judged and they ding you on an alt. with no markings, which is exactly what happened to me,and that was at the chapter level, just think of what will happen at a Regional or National!!Back to basics I guess. The car has sat for a couple of weeks or so,so do you think I should just put on the battery minder and see if it goes away. And the original question was where (or how)do I find an original alt.if need be???Sure hope I can meet you one of these days and buy you a beer or something!!Thanks!!

Great advice. My 96 has flashed the SYS code about three times in its life, and every time it was a bad/low battery.

I can't spell C-4, but if you disagree with the judging guide, I would contact the Team Leader, his contact info can be found at the top of this forum under contacts.

I haven't seen the judging guide for the C4's. Where does it specify the date and part number is located ? Is there more than one location listed ? I used a mirror and examined 2 units pretty closely and could not find anything.

The numbers are right on top easily visible from the picture that Charlie Fullam sent.
