Sorry, I can't help on this one. While most of my Chevelle parts information goes back to 1964, my steering column parts information for Chevelles only goes back to 1967. I can't figure out why, though.

I have no parts information for Pontiacs.

Can you be a little more specific? Are you looking for the column part numbers, or the shifter part numbers? Columns were not serviced as an assembly, so the parts you need would have to be a part of your inquiry.

Tilt Strg Columns were shipped to the assembly plants as nearly complete units. I am looking for the tilt steering column assembly part numbers as shipped from Saginaw Steering Gear to the various A-car assembly plants.

The assembly plant installed the turn signal lever, the tilt lever, and the steering wheel with (in some cases) a seperate hub, along with horn cap, and cancelling cam. I would like the Saginaw part numbers 569XXXX so I can find the actual assembly drawings.

I have asked this same question over at the Chevelle forum where the information might be available in the Chevelle AIM. I thought that part number guru Joe Lucia might have had the information in his files.

Sorry, I have the part numbers for the original components , but not for the subassemblies.

            Jim------

Bill's information that the columns were not serviced as an assembly could be the exact reason that I have no information on them. From what I can find, the first year that the column assemblies were available was 1967. For 1964-66 apparently only the component parts were available in SERVICE. What this would mean is that the assembly shipped to the assembly plants was not also shipped to GMSPO for SERVICE.

This would also mean that the only place to obtain the PRODUCTION part numbers for the assemblies would be the Chevelle AIM of the particular year. I do not have any Chevelle AIM's.

So far the boys from the Chevelle Tech forum have come up with the following 1966 tilt steering column part numbers from their AIMs.

              Tilt Column Automatic Shift 5697070

              Tilt Column Floor Shift 5697065

I cannot find that either of those part numbers were ever available in SERVICE.

                  Joe,
I knew that the pre-1967 standard steering columns had to be ordered in pieces for service. I assumed that since the tilt as well as the T&T strg columns were a lot more complicated (i.e. locking shoes, pivot pins, supports, etc) the entire steering column assembly may have been available as service parts. Evidently they weren't.
