    100,000,000th small block V8

The Wizard of Wixom have been selected to build the 100,000,000th small block Chevy V8. The LS9 is it, great choice for the engine and the plant, those guys are great there.

I am sure many will disagree. But I do not consider the the LS motors as small blocks.
I know, I know. The critical internal dimentions are similar if not the same. But there are no interchangable parts between LS and the small block Chevy. (Dont have to pull the heads to change your lifters on a small block either)

I therefore consider the 100,000,000th small block claim to be an eroneous advertising gimmick at best.

Isn't the LS good enough to stand on it's own instead of piggy backing the "small block" mystique and reputation ?

I can't argue with any of that, the LS is a totally different engine than the old 265-283-327, but life and technology moves on. I did notice the lifter issue when I was building my LS9 at Wixom, shown in the photo, and another thing that was odd, it doesn't have a distributor, what will they think of next in these new small blocks....

I remember a story in The Restorer about the closing of Flint Engine Plant in 2000 or so. That plant alone build 59 million small blocks up to that time. Some of those were the Gen II LT1 & LT4, but most were real small blocks, built by real men and women using NO robots.

Yes, you would think a 6.2 litre engine that puts out 638 HP and 604 lb./ft. could stands on it's own compared to the old, low tech small blocks.

Not true! I recall reading about the LS1 when it was introduced. It used the same rod bearings as the late classic small block.
