    John,

Don't take my comments personally. They were not directed at any particular individual. I would rather we were able to be up front about buying and selling, but I have no dog in that race. I just couldn't resist poking fun at the entire situation. Occasionally my perverse sense of humor rears its head.

I keep telling my daughter that sometimes it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission. The real challenge is to know when to do which.

I'd like to go with Stephen's approach cutting the profile. Can someone with an original set post a front on shot of a complete gasket to make things easier? Can't afford NOS, much bigger issues to deal with ...

Attached is a photo of a GM #3860350, the EXACT side gasket originally used for 1966-68 oval port big blocks.

Well, I tried to post the pictures but the "upload failed". I suppose it's another foible of the "new and improved" software.

Would this be the same gasket for a '72 LS-5? I'm in a similar position. If it is I'd like the pic too. Thanks!

1972 used a very similar gasket but of a different part number. I have those, too [none for sale], but I don't know if I have any in an already opened package that I could open for a photo.

Joe -- is it possible that we're (still) limited to the 800 by 600 pixel [landscape orientation], without this limitation shown anywhere ? In which case, downsizing or cropping is necessary to meet the 800 horiz. and/or 600 vert. restriction.

Joe -- is this the oval port 3860350 that we're talking about ?

This is on my Photobucket acct. so not limited by NCRS DB size restrictions. Could take other shots if I knew what details are needed.

Could be. However, I have not changed my camera's setting in quite some time. I used to be able to post all photos taken at this setting so I do not understand why anything would have changed. I did have trouble posting a long time ago when I had the camera at a higher setting but I reduced it to what it is now and had no more trouble until now.

I can't read the numbers embossed on the gasket in the photo. The number 3860350 is embossed on the original 1966-68 oval port gaskets.

Joe -- I dug out the gaskets and the emboss is: "GM3860350". there is also a McCord number but it would be hidden under the end tab of the manifold.

                              Wayne,

The goal is to accurately recreate the profile, which can be done with a straight on photo of the entire gasket. Once I have a photo, I'll use a projector to project the image over a standard gasket to trace the profile.

                              Thanks,
                              Robert

OK; I'll shoot both oval and square port (for the L71 owners) side by side, full length in portrait orientation (to minimize sideways scroll on this site), then post to my Photobucket acct., so that max detail will show when linked to the NCRS site. Gotta eat lunch first.
