I will take the easy part of your question first:
NO reproduction will judge as correct. It is like exhaust systems -- one has to choose the least egregious example.

The configuration of the mesh is open to opinion. Mine is none of the mesh examples you give are OEM. But then you know what they say about opinions.

Let me rephrase the question. Which air filter will judge the best, square mesh or diamond mesh?

IF I were the judge, which is not likely, either of those would score the same. Please understand there are many other features to the air filter than the mesh. For example I have seen Fram filters with diamond mesh = 0 points, but if you have the right color car the orange ends go well with the exterior.
