    C2 radio capacitor at coil

The radio capacitor on my 67 that screws to the coil bracket and has the wire that goes to the coil has a base (where it attaches to the coil bracket) that is rectangular with rounded corners. I kept the same number capacitor off a 64 because it was in better shape. When I went to put the 64 capacitor on, I realized that the base is tapered, with a rounded tip by the attaching screw. Is this a normal difference between a 64 and a 67, or two suppliers for Delco, or? What type do 67 small blocks generally use? Thanks

Mike - Those GM engineers. They are always confusing things for us. As you observed, there were 2 different configurations of the attaching base, the taped one with the rounded point at the screw hole and the squared one with the rounded corners at the screw hole, for the DR 1960958 .3MF capacitor. I had thought the one that comes to the rounded point at the screw hole was the one I seem on 66s and 67s and the squared one was used on the earlier cars. The one that's on our 67 has the tapered base that comes to a rounded point at the screw hole and I had thought it was the original and it might well be but now I'm going to have to look at the one for my 66 and see what it has.

Who says old cars are interesting.

I had thought the capacitor bracket that comes to the rounded point at the screw hole was used inside the distributor. It has a short leg.

Most 65-67 coil capacitor brackets are longer and have a half moon end at screw hole or full rounded off corners. Both styles seen and I have samples of both. The round form that houses the capacitor has about a 1/4" hole stamped thru.

        Gene--
This capacitor has an integral bracket at the bottom. It forms an L with the capacitor, then standing vertically on the right-hand shielding bracket.

Mike, Yes I got you now. The information I posted on earlier is for BB. The description with small amount of metal around the hole is good for 65-67 small block. There may be other configurations too. I haven't been specifically looking at the little mounting tangs.

I can't say for sure on the 64. Does the wider base one fit in the space on the ignition shield brace? I don't have one with the wider base to look at.

Gene - Both of the capacitor base configurations will fit on the coil support bracket. Pete

Anyone have a picture of where this goes on a SB bracket ?

              Thanks,

              Mike

It goes attached to the right top ignition shield brace. The hole is adjacent to the four hole grommet for the plug wires.

Shown in the AIM in the radio section near the back of the booklet.

Anyone know about the correct configuration of the base?
                    thanks

                      Mike -

The one on my '67 SB has the rectangular base with rounded corners, and appears to be original.
