WB 1C Bolts Determine the location

I have two of these bolts. The WB 1C head mark seems to be fairly uncommon and the only other bolts i can think of on the 66 that have this headmark, are the long front sway bar link bolts.

Again, i think these might possibly go to the transmission mount bracket.... The bolts that pass through the bracket and frame tabs to secure the it in place???

Im sure somebody knows what the correct head mark is for those bolts, so if you can confirm the markings, then at least i could play process of elimination.

    Thanks

Re: WB 1C Bolts Determine the location

    Chris,
a few possibilities here. They look like 5/16-18x7/8" if thats correct they have at least 3 possible applications on a C2
    1. Headlight support rod to headlight bearing supports
    2. Fender skirt to radiator support
    3. fan shroud to radiator support.
WB 1c is not as common on a 66 as a 63-65 it is still possible for this.
    Other posibilites are M35

Here's my WAG. It looks like the one of the headmarks I've seen on bolt p/n 122123. That was used to attach the Fuel Tank Support to the frame and the Spare Tire Lock Bolt Bracket to the frame and there are probably other applications. Pete

        Petes right if it's 3/8-16

Forgot another application if its 5/16-18 rear muffler hanger to frame and to muffler bolt.

On a side note the 2 transmission bolts that attach the trans mount bracket to the frame for 66 are 3/8-16x7/8 grade 8 with lock nuts. Headmarkings WB, AS, S and many others.

Great info, i will report back this evening once i can take a good look at the car.

The radiator support to skirts have the original bolts in them. However, the tank crossmember bolts had been removed and the spare tire bolt nuts had been removed as well.

Im betting they are to the spare tire bolt bracket, but i could be wrong.

Thanks. This can be fun and frustrating at the same time. Normally i would not bother with this sort of thing, but since the car was from California and the bolts are in such perfect condition, i cant stand not having them on the car and in their correct location.

              Christopher,

In addition to the length shown in your pictures, the thead size (e.g., 1/4-20, 5/16-18, 3/8-24, 7/16-14, etc.) would be most helpful in trying to identify a particular bolt.

That's a head mark that Chevy used for years. I have some that look just like your two on my '53 Chevy 5 window pickup truck.

122007's on rear exhaust hangers for 66 - RSC. These look to be the bolt Pete indicated, 3/8. WB1C other than the front sta bar long bolts was rare, rear tire lock.

Re: WB 1C Bolts Determine the location

Found the location of these bolts thanks to my father's 66 that i replaced the gas tank on 3 years ago. His car was from the North and i actually had to cut one of the bolts off. Two of the other 3 were so rusted that the headmark was no longer distinguishable, but, one clearly has the same headmark and is the same thread size and length. I would have thrown the bolts away, but they fell into the trough on my lift and i haven't cleaned it out in 3 years.

So, this particular WB1C bolt goes to the Gas tank crossmember. Apparently i am missing two of the bolts, sigh.

Ding, Ding, Ding!!!! And the winner is....PETE!

Gas tank support/crossmember bolt. Well, at least for around April-June of 66.

My car has a mid- April build date and my fathers was built in early June.

The bolts in the original post look like they're black phosphate, but aren't the bolts at the fuel tank crossmember and spare tire lock bracket normally Cad or zinc plated?

That's because i put black phosphate on them. It was an oops on my part when reconditioning the bolts.
