Re: C2 Ebay carb
Get a signed affidavit that the carb is guarantee original 1967 issue from the seller and not a new-stamp carb, differentiated from a restamp in that a new stamp was never stamped before.
The new-stamps have some little known very subtle differences to the originals. Also find out who did the restoration, there are only a hand full of people doing real restorations.- Top

Re: C2 Ebay carb
Ronald, in an e-mail the qwner stated that a Carl French of Midwest Corvettes & Classics did the resroration on both carb & intake. I'm not familiar with the name or business. Just seems like a lot of money, but it does match with date code. I will check for a signed aff, though.- Top

Re: C2 Ebay carb
You might want to know how long the carb has been restored. If it has been a long time and not stored in a climate controlled area you may have some leaks when you start to use it.His price is at the top of the price range. If you do not need the intake maybe you could negotiate a price minus the intake.- Top

Re: C2 Ebay carb
Al, this story may have no bearing on your decision, but I'll take a moment to pass it on and you can regard it accordingly to your interest.
I've mentioned on the TDB before that a few years back I used ot deal in quite a few vintage parts (I retired from that hobby/business). I remembered this one intake and carbs (tripower) I had sold a few years back for a fairly strong price.
I looked it up in my old records and it was an original 1969 L71 intake with original assembly line carbs dated early 1969.
I remember the intake being near mint in condition, yet very stained. I had Jerry MacNeish reskin it, and then had the three totally original Holley carbs restored.
I sold it early in 2007 for $3,875 according to my records.
here's the interesting part as noticed in my notes" I had paid $2,750 for the non-restored intake and carburetors (that had been garage stored for 20+ years).
with my intake reskinning charges, carburetor restoration, and associated insured shipping costs both ways, my notes indicate I had roughly $3,750 invested in the finished restored set.
I sold them via a popular internet auction site and it looks like my associated fees were in the $65 range at that time.
I remember that the buyer emailed me saying he had bene looking for a years or more for the correct set-up, and the one I sold to him performed flawlessly.
Just a short story for whatever it's worth.
p.s. I ran the $3,875.00 amount into an inflation calculator website I like just now, and in today's dollars it hits: $4,231.57
Good luck with your decision.Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .- Top

Re: C2 Ebay carb
I would think you can find a nice 3810 for 500-600 if you look. I paid 500 for mine but I went through it to make sure everything was to spec and surfaces flat.
From the pics it looks like the accellerator pump housing has been changed. If the pics were better I could ID the base plate as they changed the boss where the choke pull off hose attaches.
There was a article in the restorer magazine some time ago showing the differences in the main body casting in original and later Holley carburetors. I don't remember what year that was, maybe someone can remember.- Top

Re: C2 Ebay carb
The date stamp on the air horn isn't typical, and the fuel inlet boss plugs have been epoxied over; you can get 783 intakes all day long for $50.00. It's WAY over-priced, even if it was correct.- Top

Re: C2 Ebay carb
Al,
I took a close look at the pictures and actually the carb looks very good to me. It does have a nice finish and is apparently a restored carb. I could not see the base plate or the sides but the base plate is probably a replacement.
A question to ask is whether the base plate has 3810 stamped on it, or whether the seller will post additional photos of the base plate, or the sides. I could tell you a lot more about originality if those side and base photos were posted.
But from what I can see, it looks original but restored. The date code on the air horn may be a little faint, but I don't see any evidence of a restamp.
As for price, it is a little pricey but it has an intake manifold with it. A carb alone like this from graygracy or MztrCarb (or whatever) would be $999.00.
I know I have a lot more than a grand (counting time and parts) into restoration of my 763 3810 which is dated a week before my 67. But it's a hobby to me.
Not sure when it ends, but at that price the seller should be accommodating to a potential buyer. Maybe ask a few questions, contact the seller.
With that date code and your mid February car, as I indicated in another thread, is perfect. Don't let it get away
Believe me, I don't know the seller, and have nothing to do with him.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: C2 Ebay carb
Al,
For comparison, here's the date code on my 763 3810 as I bought it:
It had the wrong fuel bowls in the photo, but the main body and date code was original. In the upper part of the picture is an original 3810 base plate from another carb (751).
Here it is, all restored:
You will notice the 3810 stamped (actually double stamped) on the right side mounting extension. Also notice only one vacuum boss and tube in the bottom center. Replacements have two bosses but one is blanked off and has no vacuum tube.
Just a little trivia for comparison.Jerry Fuccillo
