Dave - I wonder if the dating could have been a few ways on the non-DOT flashers. I have several 323 yellow plastic flashers (non-DOT) - then what date would "645"have been? Seems like this must be 45th week of 1966? I also have "608" which is either 8th week of 1966 or August 1966? Anyway, any other comments or thoughts would be appreciated. Regards, Jeff Cornwell

Refer to the very first post (12/17/2011, 01:39 PM) of this thread, 2nd paragraph.

The "806" code on my Tung Sol 224 non-DOT blue plastic flasher makes sense where "8" = 1968 and "06" = June. I made the correction in my previous post.

Using the corrected date code format by Pete for my Tung-Sol flashers:
YWW -----changed in 1969+/- to ----- WWY

Blue plastic Non-DOT 224 dated "806" = 1968, 6th week
Blue metal Non-DOT 224 dated "631" = 1966, 31st week

Yellow plastic DOT 323 dated "073" = 7th week, 1973
Yellow plastic DOT 323 dated "038" = 3rd week, 1978
Yellow plastic DOT 323 dated "053" = 5th week, 1973
Yellow plastic DOT 323 dated "435" = 43rd week, 1975

This seems to make sense.

Your yellow plastic Non-DOT 323 dated "645" = 1966, 45th week and the one dated "608" = 1966, 8th week.

Dave -- what's this one ? Metal can, prongs have no holes, but there's a faint dimple on the side of each contact, where the hole would be. Top reads: "MFD TO J590-61", then in center "SAE". Other side of barrel (top line) "4___2___3", widely spaced and stamped in very small characters; next line "PAT.NO.RE.24023"; third line "MADE IN U.S.A."

Can take pics of the above info, if needed.

I just found a NOS light blue metal Tung-Sol 224 flasher in my "collection" exactly (same stampings) like the one in your photo except for the date code and the scratches. My NOS 224 flasher is dated "6 1 0" (1966, 10th week). It came in a blue,red, and white box with "TUNG-SOL ELECTRIC INC." and NEWARK 4, N.J." on one flap. One of the inside flaps has "6609" on it (possible box date code, 1966, 9th week). Even though zip codes started in July 1963 I'm sure it took awhile before the address was updated on the Tung-Sol boxes.
