    Can I touch this up?

I have a small scrape on the silver portion of my speedometer on the outer ring. (disregard the mark at the base of the needle thats dirt)
I have a faded orange/red on my Tach, assuming that was the tru colors?

Can this be touched up without a "redo"? If so what paint should I use and whats the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dennis; If that was from my '63 I would be afraid to mess with it. I don't think any touchup will match. I don't think you would notice it that much when it is installed.

I would not attempt to do this. If you just have to have it done, Joe Ray, a frequent poster here, does very good guage work. You can find his contact info in the members list in the tool bar above.

Those are spun aluminum cones. PM me if you need one. You'll need a "pro" to redo the tach.

            Hey Mike,

As you probably know, at work we would call that "Boeing Silver."

Thanks...hmmm if its spun silver maybe this is a black rub mark? Is the cone aluminum all the way through or is this a black base to this? If spun silver a little paint thinner should not affect the silver and I could find out if its a mark?

Thanks. will do If I cannot get this off...spun aluminum cones sounds like there is no "black underneath, this could be a mark but was afraid to use anything on it just in case I took the silver off?

Took a little WD40 and sat it on the mark, it came off after 10 minutes. It looks like it may have been a bit of the soft rubber/goo that holds the lenses in. I must have dropped that part of the lens on the gauge when removing the lens.

So what about the orange/redline color anything to be done about that or is that the original color? It looks yellow/beige now

Dennis, it should be yellow and orange. That is not something that is for the average hobbyist to do

This is great, then I don't have any problems, just waiting for the new plastic lenses now.
I have removed all the paint from the console. cleaned it up and now will apply the Grey throughout. Then cone the gauge bezels and do the black. I will post before and after pictures so you can critique

Anyone know the exact matching colors and what cans to buy up here in Canada?

PS not really a "hobbyist" I have done my own engine jobs, drag raced cars, repaired anything and everything. Also spray painted my own little MGB GT I bought my wife.
I have 3 years of machining so can make my own parts in a pinch. Was a old school electrical and electronics tech and spent enough years in Navy Submarines/ships (28) to learn Air, hydraulic battery propulsion systems as well. I have changed pistons as big as a garbage can, and as small as a paper clip.

I would leave it as it is. It looks okay if you ask me

..or orange/maroon if it's an early car.
